A NEW PHOTO EXHIBITION INVITES TO GO ON A TRIP AROUND THE EASTERN PARTNERSHIP COUNTRIES
It is going to open on 25 June, 2015 at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts (22 Griboedov str., Tbilisi, Georgia). Almost 60 works will be displayed there: photos of architectural monuments, cultural traditions, natural reserves, and certainly pictures reflecting human stories. Their authors are renowned and aspiring photographers from the six Eastern Partnership countries: Armenia, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Ukraine, and of course Georgia. Interestingly, the photographers will present not only their own countries but unconventional views of the neighboring countries as well. The exhibition will end on June 10.
The exhibition will portray the Eastern Partnership as a versatile, peculiar region that has many still unknown but luring spots, unexpected encounters, and unbelievable human stories. The majority of the pictures that will be displayed at the exhibition were made during the photo plein airs “My Country in the Eastern Partnership”, which were organized from August until October, last year, specially for the winners of the same name competitions, both professional photographers and amateurs.
The bulk of the photos will be about Georgia, of course. However, these pictures are made not only by Belarusian georgian photographers. In fact, the exhibition has the goal to answer the question of how GEORGIA is seen in the other Eastern Partnership countries. Accordingly, one will be able to enjoy photos made by Georgian photographs in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine. Of course, there will be some stereotypes, but there will be many fresh angles as well. Everyone at the exhibition will be able to decide for themselves.
In addition to Tbilisi, at the end of May or at the beginning of June, such exhibitions will open in Kyiv, Chisinau, Yerevan, and TMinsk. The exhibitions as well as the photo plein airs and contests “My Country in the Eastern Partnership” have become possible thanks to the project “SAY CHEESE!”, which is funded by the European Union within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Culture Programme.
The project “SAY CHEESE!” aims to develop the photography presenting the Eastern Partnership as a common yet versatile region that has a lot to offer to tourists and investors. The project forges cooperation between photographers from the EaP region and creates business opportunities for both professionals and amateurs. Therefore, the exhibitions will be also conducted within the framework of the European Year for Development 2015, which promotes the role of the European Union in creating conditions for development in the EU neighbor countries and around the whole world.
